Redevelopment
Southridge is transforming from a formerly enclosed mall into a mix of uses that will better serve the community, including more neighborhood retail, big box retail and other non-traditional uses.
A conceptual plan to create a thriving mixed use district has been created, and work on Phase 1 including new open-air store fronts, a pedestrian plaza with outdoor seating, newly created 100,000 SF of retail space and new wayfinding signage has been completed. Most recently, the property grand opened new stores including Kay Jewelers, T-Mobile, rue21, Footlocker, Shoe Carnival, Sprint and GNC. Also, Marshalls is COMING SOON May 30th.
Des Moines Area Community College will join the center Fall 2013 in 64,000 SF of the former jcpenney building. The Career Academy & Learning Center will offer high-level vocational training for high school students, and house the college’s Success Center, which offers GED and English language learning programs. Later phases of the plan also call for commercial out lots and new free-standing retail and commercial businesses, creating sites for possible restaurants, a hotel, medical offices and support services to be added to the project.
